The September 10th Apple announcement featured the start of a new way forward for Apple, the introduction of not one but two new phones in the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. The iPhone 5S, like the 4S, will be an incremental update on the iPhone software, while the 5C will be a brand-new, plastic-backed smartphone that will be offered in a variety of bright, bold colors. With the release of the 5C, Apple has catered to growing market demands for a more affordable iPhone.
After Apple released the new iOS 7 look and feel to mixed reviews in June, many changes have been made to the User Interface design. The mid-June WWDC keynote release unveiled a completely flat interface, devoid of texture, shadows, and even buttons. The 180-degree turn by Apple shocked many, and left room for plenty of criticism.
Often criticized for an inability to innovate post-Jobs, iOS 7 symbolizes Apple’s attempt to answer the call. Upon the removal of Scott Forstall as Software Designer, Apple handed the reigns of the new interface to Jony Ive, the creative mind behind the revolutionary look and feel of Apple hardware. Some have speculated that Ive revamped the interface to compliment his iconic iPhone design, toning down the literal imagery and depth of the previous interface. Nonetheless, iOS 7 will turn heads, and the overhaul is sure to represent a very important moment in Apple history.
